Online Counselling

Counselling for adults in the UK who grew up with an emotionally immature or selfish parent.

I’m here to help.

I know counselling can be unfamiliar to many. So I’m here to help answer all your questions! Feel free to reach out if I can’t answer your questions here.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a conversation between you and me. It gives you a space to explore your problems or difficulties in confidence and without judgement. You can arrive at your own answers.

What happens in the first session?

Starting counselling can feel scary and it may difficult for you to know what to say. Or you may have so much to say that you don’t know where to begin. That’s fine. Even though at our first meeting I will be a stranger to you I will try to understand what you want to say and how you feel.

Your questions answered.

How do we meet online?

We will Zoom because it is secure. You will need to be in a room where you won’t be overheard or interrupted, so that you feel comfortable talking.

How long are sessions?

Standard sessions are 50 minutes, but if you want longer or shorter sessions we can discuss this, and I will do my best to accommodate you.

What can I talk about?

You will be in charge of what we talk about. You will not be expected to talk about anything you don’t want to talk about.

We will move at your own pace – at a pace that you feel comfortable with. I won’t try to direct you, but if you ask me any questions I will do my best to answer them.

Some of the issues that clients often to choose to focus on are:

  • Talking through an issue in order to make sense of what has happened, and to put things in perspective
  • Making sense of a specific problematic event that sticks in your mind
  • Dealing with difficult or painful relationships
  • Problem-solving, planning and decision-making
  • Changing behaviour
  • Negotiating a life transition
  • Dealing with difficult feelings and emotions
  • Undoing self-criticism and enhancing self-care

Is this confidential?

I hope that you will feel you can talk to me in confidence about anything that might be troubling you.

Our talks are confidential which means that unless someone is in real and immediate danger I don’t share any private or identifying information about you with anyone else.

How many sessions can I have?

You will be in control of the number of sessions. There is no expectation, take as long as you need – everyone is different.

How much do you charge?

£60 for a 50 minute session. You can pay straight to my account via online banking.

What happens if I need to cancel?

There is no fee for cancelling provided a minimum notice of 24hours is given. The usual fee is chargeable for under 24 hours notice, other than for genuine emergencies.

What do your credentials mean?

One of the main professional bodies for counsellors is the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

While many therapists register with the BACP, I have gone a step further by achieving accreditation.

Accreditation represents a more advanced and experienced level within the BACP. It indicates a counsellor’s dedication to continuous improvement, ethical practice, and a higher level of proficiency in providing effective therapy.
